A friend of mine found Freeze Dried liver treats at petsmart, its a pretty large tub that says "100% pure beef liver treats" and states that theres absolutely no preservatives or additives, the only ingredient is beef liver, and large dogs are allowed "3 to 4 per day". Has anyone ever given these to their dog? My dog goes absolutely crazy for them. What is the reason for the 3-4 a day limit? What do you think of these? They are from "Pro-Treat" brand.
I've given them to my dogs. Im not sure about the limit. Ive cut them into smaller pieces and used them for training. The dogs really like them and will do backflips for them.
Cool I'll keep using em then You should see him fly at me when I open the tub all the way and let all that stench be unleashed into the room
Well, it's still in the meat department, but probably much cheaper. I use the cheapest store brand hot dog (raw), cut it into about 7 pieces, and then cut each piece in half. Just the right size for training. I line the pocket of whatever I'm wearing with a baggie so there's no mess with the clothes. I've also heard that some people train/treat with popcorn, but I haven't tried that yet. I'm afraid I'll end up eating most of it and then I'll have ill-mannered drooling pups
I'll have to look at something like that now I'm going to raw- Any other suggestions that are less messy and wet than meat etc?
They're absolutely 100% non-messy dry little cubes. They live on my desk.
The 2 other treats I like to give are the Turkey, Pork & Chicken Oscar Meyer Hotdog Wieners, I either let him nibble out of my hand (his nibbling can hurt if he gets a little overzealous, I use my hand ot limit how much he can bite off), or I break pieces off with my fingers... or when I want a hotdog to last a long time, I slice it down the middle then slice the whole thing up into 1/8" thick pieces, ends up with 30-40 pieces of hotdog Yes hotdogs are a little wet n messy but it's not a big deal, it's not like handling a steak.
The other treats I really like are the Liver Biscotti that Leerburg sells, Cujo goes crazy for that stuff, they're like croutons for dogs. He has a negative reaction to wheat though so I need the anti-allergenic version which, overall, sounds healthier anyway.
