Ok, I finaly got my 9 month old puppy convinced that the jute tug is "Evil" and must be bit. She's still playing of course. But, she's figured out that if she bites my hand I drop the tug REALLY fast. Only took her three or four times to figure that out. I had a problem of her going after the tug handles so I cut them off. My question is how do I get her back on the tug and off my hands without discouraging her bite?

Hi Dennis
My Mal pup does the same thing. I do not let go though. I tell her to out and let her grip again. She is excited to play tug and I notice that if I am not focused on my training session I present incorrectly and get bit. I also use both handles and she hardly knows they are there. If I am going to just use one hand I use my jute with only one handle. I think that if you are dropping the tug, your dog is winning and this is why your dog is trying for your hands. If I am going to be doing any kind of tug work/play with my pup I make sure I stay focused on what I am doing, if I am distracted I set myself up to get bit. Also if I am distracted, she is a little distracted also.
Just my 2 cents.

Dennis, i had the same thing going on with my pup, he got my hand and arms good a few times. I tied a short piece of rope(about 6' long) to the handle, you can really make the tug bounce all over the place with a rope attached and make the dog work real hard for the tug, but make sure you keep the line taught when the dog finally gets it because when they start whipping their head from side to side, if it's loose, you'll get a surprize when it smacks you in the face , it's the same as somebody hitting you in the face (or body) with a rope, it's my pups second favorite game to play, glad to hear the allergy is clearing up
