I had a pup that came back with the vet with a negative parvo test. I then spent the next 4 days trying to squirt enough pedialite down his throat to keep him alive. If the poop turns a watery reddish brown and smells obnoxoiusly(sp?) awful, take him back to the vet.
I'll try the ice cube idea, sounds like a great way to get him to drink! Also I've been using a baby medicine suringe to give him water and that works well. I do not believe the vet checked for pancreatitis, i'll bring it up at his next visit. I'll quit feeding meat and boil him some rice and add some chicken broth. Thanks for the advice. I want to feed raw so I'll research more, i've ordered a few books, just waiting for them to arrive. He is playing fine and poo was a bit harder yesterday and only a tiny tiny bit of blood in it. I'll fast him all day today and only give water, and start the rice tomorrow. Thank you everyone!
Kristy - it's great you are serious about feeding raw and ready to do some research. Your books will be very helpful, but don't forget in the meantime to use the SEARCH function on this Board. Check under "BARF" and "raw feeding". You will find TONS of good, useful information, which also includes the many different ways of feeding raw. Remember that there is no one hard-and-fast way to feed raw - it's what you feel comfortable with and what you feel your dogs do best with. There are many, many options and it is up to you to gather all the information, evaluate it, ask for help if necessary, and then make the wisest, most well-informed choice for your situation. Good luck and please keep us posted.
