OK, I have an American Staffordshire Terrier and currently we use a prong. I read Ed's article about it. 3 weeks ago at handling class we were standing in line and a weim grabbed her back leg, up to this point I had no problems with dogh aggression. Now, We do, She is more vocal around thema and if they get within 18 inches of her she will try and grab them. She snaps and then goes the other way and acts liek the dog isn't even there. I almost feel like she is just showing her dominance but I do not tolerate thi9s type of behavior. Mind you she will do this and then she will play with the same dog and have no problems. We are doing Schutzhund and I really want this behavior to stop. I don't know what else I can do. Is she being dominant or having dog aggression? We are working hard on this and she almost only does it at handling class. She doesn't do it at stores, the park etc. just handling class.
Get a DOMINANT DOG COLLAR http://leerburg.com/746.htm
and learn how to use it. I preferr it over a prong as the prong can make the dog hectic in this situation.
OK, from what it looks like the dominant dog collar is much like a "fitted collar". I have a fitted collar but haven't used it on her yet. Maybe I will try that as it looks identical to the dominant dog collar. She doesn't have to be bombproof around other dogs, I just don't want her growling or lunging at a dog that gets too close.
