Does anyone here know wheather chronic kidney failure is/can be genetic?
I have been told "no it is not genetic, that if it is, it is extremely rare" (by a man who heavily studied genetics at U of I working with the lab animals) And I've been told by my vet that chronic kidney (renal) failure in this instance is likely genetic.
Happenstance discovery with my 5.5 year old GSD. I will not write out the details of this discovery unless I receive a request for this information.
I am faced with 2nd (comprehensive) blood test revealing seriously elevated BUN and creatinine levels. I believe it was the red? blood cell count on CBC being low.
BOTTOM LINE: PROGNOSIS NOT GOOD.
Any experience out there with renal failure? Dog was not poisoned.
I am in a state of somewhat shock, my other dog died (just shy of 14!) of renal failure, however, this dog is still young!
Is it Nephrotic Syndrome? I just went through a year of veterinary diagnosis hell with one of my dogs that had/has elevated protein/creatnine readings. PM me if you like and perhaps I can give you some insight. Simply put, renal failure can be caused by various things - some are heritable some are not.
