Cow mat's seem like they are a pain in the ass to clean in the event that the puppy goes potty in the crate, they are heavy so can't take em out easily, n they're not smooth so difficult to wipe down... the hard plastic tray seems like it wouldn't be too good for the puppy, n I refuse to do the $50 mattress thing for pups anymore because I already learnt my lesson on that <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> My GSD is super duper lucky that he's allowed a mattress again at almost 2 years old, he's had it for 3 months and no rips yet, but I know a pup will destroy it sooner or later.
What do you guys reccomend for an 8 week old pup as a crate liner?
I reccomend nothing at all. I have found this to be the best way of keeping a pup from using the liner as a urine absorber. The other thing is a strict potty schedule as prevention. Unless the pup is sleeping outside in the crate she doesn't need a liner to make her comfortable. The liner can come later as you see her learning her housebreaking and accepting the crate as her den.
I like the cedar panels that are made to fit in the crate. They allow air to circulate under the dog. In hot climates it may help alittle. it also allows dirt and shedding to fall beneath it. They also don't add huge weight to the crate like cow mats.
