Just a little frustration here, but for some reason my AST will not down consistently outside. Indoors she is almost 100%, but outside less then 50%.....I have to step on the leash to get her to go down. Once she is down she will stay but I have to assist. Also her down is tenuous...like she does not like the feel of grass, or something....any thoughts anyone. Do I just keep going and it will come????
That is good advice from John. Give the dog a chance to understand what you want when you give the “down” command. That means you must make sure that you have the dog’s complete attention. After the dog understands, then you can start adding distractions and work in different places. Only after the dog understands is it appropriate to correct the dog for unwanted reactions, etc.
