Hi,
I just wondered if anyone knows anything about why my 8 month old pups front feet are starting to turn out from the wrist down? I'm sure I've read somewhere that it's a deficiency in something but I can't find the site.
Any help in this matter would be appreciated, thanks
Lisa
lisa,
isn't your pup a great dane? and you have him/her on raw diet, right? the only thing that comes to mind is: an incorrect ratio of CA:PHOS.
from the Merck Manual copyright 1986: "... calcium and phosphorus, eg., are usually best utilized when provided in a ratio ranging from 1-2:1 with adequate levels of Vitamin D....excess absorbed calcium results in decreased bone remodeling and causes bone abnormalities during growth...."
something to check into anyway. there are a lot of people on here that are better qualified than i am to speculate, though. just the first thing that occurred to me...
Thanks Ann, yes you're right about he's a Dane pup and he's on raw. I've looked into that and I don't really know how to know for sure if the balance is right. Arrrrgghh it's so frustrating. There is a product that is called Bonemeal Gold that is exactly balanced in calc/phos but I don't know whether adding that would cause more problems.
Thanks again,
Lisa
