My new puppy is finally here. I am trying to switch her to Honest Kitchen, but she won’t touch it. After a couple of days of just picking it up, she is still not eating it. I am mixing it with her current food, but she still won’t eat it.
I am not sure how long she can go without really eating.
would she eat her "current food".. what if there's something wrong with her..? I wouldn't usually keep a puppy too long without food. Having said that.. I made a friend of mine have her puppy go for 3 days without food.. then the lightbulb suddenly went on in the pup's head..
yes, she eats her current food. I tried that this morning just in case there might be something wrong (she was just flown in), but she ate that. It just seems that she doesn't like THK. I wasn't expecting that (especially after spending $80.00 on the food
If she's just being picky.. Start again by puttin the food down for 15 mins. If she doesn't eat then put it away till next feeding; and so on.. Just make sure that she's drinking water.. Try feeding ground beef with them might entice her to eat them..

That is what I am doing...I put the food in her crate and leave her in there for 15 minutes. If she doesn't eat it, then I pick it up until time for her next feeding. I am assuming that she won't starve herself. But she is only 8 weeks old, so I don't know if that is a good idea.
I plan to mix ground beef, etc with THK, but I have not started yet. I didn't want to move too fast and upset her stomache. I will try that next and see what happens
Don't discount the amount of stress your puppy is dealing with right now.
Feed her the food she will eat, then after she is feeling more "at home" and settled add one small spoonful of the HK...if she eats that the next day add two spoonfuls, etc...
funny thing is, the dogs that leave here won't eat anything but HK or raw. Familiarity brings comfort, give the pup a chance to settle before changing things up.

I was using "search" to find an old thread comparing the switch to THK to a switch from fast food to grilled chickem and broccoli --- or from any daily food to any other one -- when Cindy posted this.
Other forum members have commented that it might be the lack of high sodium, sugar, and chemical flavorings (which, let's face it, can be addictive!) that makes THK seem bland at first.
I now use it as backup to raw, and I did pretty much what Cindy is saying. I rehydrated about 1/4 cup every day to pour over their raw for several days before a trip, and within a few days had them on THK with a few chicken backs tossed in, which was the goal.
I feel sure that a stressed puppy would react similarly, with a slow and gradual switch after a settling-in period.
Congrats on your new puppy!!! Babies are so much fun.
I have always had the best luck with ground turkey. Maybe try just letting her lick it off your finger while playing with her. Then add other stuff from there.....
Thanks for the help everyone. I will follow your suggestions and hopefully she will start eating THK soon. I want to get her off of the commercial food as quickly as possible.
BTW- I fed her sardines for lunch today, which she loved…she ate the entire can. Although, it was not my best idea because it upset her stomach a bit. But she really liked it.
