I just recently purchased two Czech GSD puppies and have a couple of questions. I was rubbing my female's belly the other day and noticed a bump around one of her nipples. She is 3 1/2 months old. Even though the bump was shrinking I took her to the Vet today. I was told that she had *Puppy Pyroderma* Not sure about the spelling???I asked her what causes this and she told me that sometimes it's just a puppy thing.
She gave me Cephalexin 250 mg to give to her.
Question #1. Has anyone ever heard of this and what causes this? I ask because she just received her puppy vaccinations a day or two prior to me noticing the bump.
Question #2. How long does it take for a pup, thats 3 1/2 months and 5 1/2 months to get used to a new diet? When I brought the female home from the airport she had good firm stools and the male had so so stools. The male had a small worm problem which is now gone.
I was feeding both Adult dry kibble until I could decide on what kind of food I wanted to feed them. Approximately 4 or 5 days. There stools were pretty good.
Now after deciding on a commercial diet I have been feeding them both approximately 2 to 2 1/4 cups of INNOVA puppy food a day. (For approximately 5 to 7 days) There stools have become mushy and are rarely firm. There are no problems with worms or stress. I have had both pups for two weeks now.

My female had this as a pup and then has continued flare ups of supposed diaper rashes during heat cycles and skin sores that I was told were staph skin infections and treated w/ antibiotics.
Well, once I switched over to a raw food diet, I have NEVER seen this again!!So ,I guess you could predict my reccomendation! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
No one ever said life was supposed to be easy, life is what you make of it!!
Thanks Jeannette. I know this is a raw diet board and I have nothing against it. I just haven't decided to go completely raw with my new pups. I have been feeding them both INOVA, human grade kibble. It's pretty rich and there system seems to be taking it's time adjusting to it.
I thought the puppy pyroderma might have been a reaction from the puppy shots she received that same day. Of course the Vet said it was just something some pupies get and didn't say anything about the puppy shots.
