I disagree with the bad nerves comment. Not all dogs that are afraid of thunder have bad nerves. Many dogs who are fine as young dogs with storms get sensitive to thunder storms as they age. Maybe they wise up and realize the dangers of storms. Animals are much more sensitive to mother nature than humans, it's a means of survival.
wow you just took the wind out of my sailes let me give you the whole story last night we left lily home for a couple hours my wife and kids got home before me and my daughter said lily was laying behind the recliner beacuse she was afraid of the thunder but i don't think that was the case because she was with me during another storm and it didn't seem to affect her. she is not afraid of loud noises anywhere else or gunfire for that matter i guess i will have to wait and see when we get another storm. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
You say other noises dont bother her so thats good. I would just try to be with her around as many storms as possible when they come through. I wouldnt feed into it and comfort her if she acts scared. Just act like it's no big deal and she should feed off you that it is no big deal and shes ok. If you have been with her around thunder before and she was fine then it may be because she was alone this time. Some dogs are visibly more confident when with their leader.
thanks pat for your input i do appreciate it other noises don't bother her at all sirenes guns fireworks etc i wish i had been there to see for myself last night for all my daughter knows lily could have just found a comfortable spot on the floor
i have a update if anyone cares last night we had a bad thunder storm and lily and i were outside training in it it didn't phase her one bit all she cared about was her toy
