How can I train my 6.5 month old GSD puppy not to bark? Whenever he is in his kennel and someone walks in my room holding an object he starts barking. He also barks whenever he hears someone walking around outside of the room. Now I wouldn't mind if he barked once, but he barks for a long long time. When I scream NO! at him, he just keeps on barking. The only way to get him to stop is to let him out. (which I do not do, because I don't want him to bark so that he will be let out.)

You could first teach him "quiet". Do it in reverse. When no one is around give him the command "quiet", wait a few secs, then give him a reward & an "atta boy". Do this a lot for a few days. Then, have someone walk down the hall, but not all the way to your room & tell your pup "quiet", if he doesn't bark (even for a second), tell him "good boy" & give him a reward. Keep doing this & when he is solid for a second, start extending the time he has to be quiet before you reward him.

I agree with Susan. By 6 months you should have done more training with this dog. Had you done so you would have had more sontrol of the dog. If you have to SCREAM at a dog you dont understand dog training very well. Run the dog through ground work for puppies and through my basic obedience program. Your problem will be solved.
