My 11 month old Dobe got his 1st Lyme vaccine 1 month ago after the vaccine he had vomiting/diarhea for 3 days, we chose not to get the 2cd Lyme's vaccine. BUT now 1 month after he has a patch of hair loss with a rash on the same left hip as vaccine, just not in the same spot as the vaccine. I think it has to do with the lymes vaccine, the vet says no and did a test for mange - NEGATIVE, for ringworm/Fungal - NEGATIVE. He prescribed an anitbiotic(clavamox) and antihistamine (hydroxyzine Pamoate)for 2 weeks. Does anyone think this has to do with Lymes vaccine or similar experience?????
Yes, call your Vet and ask if s/he prescribed the antibiotic for a possible staph infection, or what (???) Then a harmless home remedy is to buy 3% hydrogen peroxide (very inexpensive OTC antiseptic from Walgreens or any pharmacy) and wipe your dog's coat down with it straight from the bottle 2-3 times/day til the rash disappears & the haircoat grows back in again...
Here's the URL for a health-related Dobie list (all colors):
Thanks for the link for Dobes. The vet said the antibiotic was for a potential bacterial infection because scabies and ringworm/fungal were negative. Do you think OK to stop antibiotic and antihistamine and start hydrogen peroxide?? I would prefer hyydrogen peroxide topically to internal medication.
NO, continue the course of antibiotics until you've used them all up, just in case it is a staph infection -- But hydrogen peroxide and/or Original (unsweetened) Listerine can also be wiped on your dog's coat as a good preventative too, because it can't hurt either <:-)
