Earlier this year I had to take a job transfer and because of the quickness of the move I was not able to rent a place that would allow me to keep my 1.5 year old German Shepherd female. My parents graciously agreed to keep her for me and I reluctantly agreed. They lived out in the country but did not have a kennel to keep her in (all their dogs just run loose). Anyway after about 2 months we relized it was just not going to work out. She needed to be controlled better. So about a week or so ago we started the search for her a new home. We ended up giving her to a faimly who we felt needed her because the lived in a high crime area and the man of the house worked nights plus they had six foot wood fence around the back yard. Anyway she has been at her new home week. I have talked to the new owners a few times on the phone and everything was going well and they seemed to be bonding well with her. Well they called me tonight and told me that a man had jumped the fence and was attempting to break into the house and the dog had attacked the man and held him (mainly by terror) until the police arrived. From what I was told the man was not injured but the police did say he was a suspect they were looking for in several break-ins in the area. This dog has never had any attack training. Everything it did is instinct.
Anyway this has made a very depressing thing(loosing my dog) turn a little brighter for me and I thought I would share.

I'll bet this has made him extremely popular in his new home, too! <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
i am not a religious person but i do believe everything happens for a reason. because you raised her right she was able to react quickly to what could have a very bad situation. you should give yourself a pat on the back. if nothing else let me shake your hand. (see icon above)
What a great story, and what a great dog. Who knows what other crime against this family, besides breaking in the house, may have been committed had it not been for this dog. Thanks so much for sharing this.
