This morning my 6 month old GSD woke up after a night's sleep and one of his ears is no longer standing up at all. I fear that it is from scratching his ear due to a possible flea bite. His new Frontline Plus will be delivered today and we will put it on him immediately. Both ears have been standing up completely for months now. We are very concerned. He has lost all of his puppy teeth and he has a lot of adult teeth in. Thanks very much for any suggestions that you can offer. Jay Biles
My experience is more with Collies than GSDs but as I recall both from my Collies and the GSD I had, their ears did all kinds of crazy things until they were about a year old. My GSDs ears settled in the correct upright position and 2 of my 3 collies' ears into the correct semi-prick position. You could tape his ear/s into the correct position if you feel it's necessary, but I'd just keep an eye on the situation for a few days. I never taped my GSDs ears and the only collie whose ears I taped, they went prick despite all the effort. I'm not saying that taping the ears doesn't work, only that nothing is guaranteed.
Update,
Okay maybe I just freaked a bit too soon, my wife called me a bit ago to tell me that both of Max's ears were standing tall. What a relief, I guess I just freaked and came to the place that I trust for real answers. Thanks to the many that read this post and for the response. I am very thankful for this board and all of the folks here, if not for Ed and his training DVD's and the folks here Max would not be half the dog he is already at 6 months. Luckily the only post I have had were about RAW feeding and Max biting us a bit as a younger pup, yes he still mouths but does not break the skin now at least now that his adult teeth are coming in.
Here is a follow up question? When would the folks who do Sch training believe that it would be a good time to bring Max into a Sch club? I know at 6 months he is not ready for this type of training, was just wondering what and when the folks who train in this method begin to get their dog into a club? Thanks!!!!
Max already with minor distractions, sit/down and will stay for short period of time, needless to say I never really push stay at 6 months. All so far 100 percent positive methods and Max does well to me at least.
