Hi again:
I guess you will be hearing from me a lot with this new little girl of ours...however, your responses were really helpful yesterday, so I figured I would take advantage of your many different experiences and insights into pups.
Anyway, here goes:
I have been reading a lot about being the pack leader etc. One area where my pup (9 weeks old) is confusing me is when it comes to eating. I read yesterday in one of the articles that lower members in the pack eat last, so ideally, my pup would eat after my wife and I are finished....so here is the problem....with such a high metabolism, by the time the pup wakes up in the morning she is ravenous...I mean talk about a one track mind. She won't play or do anything until she eats in the morning. I take her out to pee and then she just bolts back to the door. I think this may have been part of the walking problem (my post yesterday), she is too hungry and can't be bothered walking or playing until she has something in her belly. After she eats (about 7 am), she is very excited to go back outside and have some fun. The same thing happens when I get home from work (between 4 and 5 p.m.). Pee, then food, then fun. And if she doens't get the food, she can't be bothered to even look at her toys. The problem I see with this is that she is getting used to eating before my wife and I, and according to the "pack rules" we are allowing her to take rank. So what is the compromise? By the time we get home and cood dinner, we are usually sitting down to dinner between 6:30 and 7:00, but I don't think we should make the pup wait until we are done eating around 7:30. Any suggestions/comments would be great. Thanks!
