I had my 7 mo. old Shepherd spayed on Thursday. She is doing great, probably too good. When I picked her up in the afternoon she acted as if she never had surgery. I am having a very hard time keeping her quiet. She's normally a pretty calm little girl but because she's been crated and leashed most of the time since her surgery she wants to bust loose.
Yesterday the day after her surgery, she busted out of the door and ran around like a race horse, scared me silly. She is not a jumper but has been jumping up on us every chance she gets.
I am going to call the vet to see it he will allow a walk around the block. The poor little thing needs to spend some of that energy. How in the world am I going to keep her quiet for the next few days?
In the past I have always been advised 'leash walks only', with no limit to how long or how many. I see no reason you can't take her for a walk around the block.
Auster got walks around the block after being spayed. It's much better to have controlled exercise than uncontrolled (escaping, jumping, etc.).
When she had to be leash walked for 3 weeks after bloating she even got a small amount of acepromazine on some days. She's the typical hyper/barky/excitable dog so sitting still doesn't work too well.

Thanks for the quick responses, it surely helps.
I took her for 2 mile walk and she enjoyed it and wanted to go longer but we ran into a problem that I didn't anticipate. We have a lot of snow and the walks aren't cleared. I walked her on the streets (subdivisions). The streets are clear but they are wet. Her legs and tummy got wet <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> . I dried her off and kenneled her. It looks like I am going to have to bandage her incision to keep it dry when she goes out.
