I agree 100% with Shelley Fritzke
- let me reprint what she wrote "If you want to prevent problems in your puppies first and foremost have a clean environment. Then do everything possible to boost the dams and pups immune system to fight these things without any intervention. Thus, feed a raw diet, do minimal vaccinations and only vaccinate for things that are crucial. In my opinion that means parvo and distemper."
Very well put.
For more years than I care to remember I vaccinated vaccinate and vaccinated. I was wrong. In fact I need to trash the article I wrote about how I used to do things - because its outdated.
The thing that we need to keep in mind is that most people who vaccinate this much WANT TO DO THE RIGHT THING for their dog. They want a healthy dog and think they are doing the right thing.
If breeders would focus on a spotlessly clean enviornment for their pups along with a natural diet they would go a long way to having healthy puppies.
I do not lump worm medication in with vaccinations. These are two different things. Worm medication is not going to do the damage that vaccinations can do.
I also have to say that people who breed more than a litter a year are going to face different issues than those of us who breed more often.
My vet told me to try to have him fast for 1 day, then start giving him small amounts of cooked rice (not minute rice) and chicken broth to let his digestive system settle down. Then after a week start adding in his kibble for a few more days, if it firms up keep adding more kibble. Have you tried this yet? NO FOOD for 24 hours , then gradually starting with tiny meals of something very mild?
If I do this right away, I can prevent my dog's diarrhea from going into colitis, which is another thing to worry about.

Yep - it the video needs to be updated. I have a bunch of good information thats filmed - just need to find time to edit it. Working on redoing my 14 year old Basic Obedience tape right now - all new video - between 3 and 4 hours long - takes more work than the average person realizes. But I am looking foreword to redoing the whelping tape - the old one is very good - the new one will be even better.
