I recently notice my older shepherd's muzzle has almost completely turned gray with a few gray whiskers. She is only 6 years old. Is this normal for her muzzle to gray so early? I know a shepherds life span is about 10-12 years, but it just seems early for her to go gray so soon. She is still as spunky as a pup and her coat/skin is very healthy otherwise. Thanks.

I know a 3 year old MALI who looks like he is at least 8 or 9 due to the graying of his muzzle. I think it just depends on the dog, but I may be wrong. <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Some dogs do go prematuraely gray. My Zorbas' muzzle started to turn grey around the lips at 6 & he lived to be over 14. When he started to turn grey I am ashamed to admit I went a little nuts & started coloring in the grey with a black magic marker! Luckily I came to my senses after a couple of months.
