Beth,
Thanks for the encouragement, this is how new I am I did'nt know there was a difference between a show line and a working line of dog. But as you say this dog being my first will be forgiving while I learn the sport.
I would like to also second Diana's motion about getting out to watch trials. Watching club level trials is very valuable - that will give you a good idea of where you might want to get to next. But I will never forget seeing a National level SchH3 trial. When Kimba was still a "baby" (she turned out to be an excellent conformation dog) we went to the Canadian Sieger Show - and they hold the National Trial to pick their World Team the same weekend. We were AMAZED to see a top level SchH competition. That experience taught us a lot, and was pivital in terms of re-thinking our own goals with our dogs. We bought all the trial videos, and regularly watch them for fun, and loan them to new participants in http://www.JolietSchutzhund.com so they can see what top level competitive SchH work really looks like. Heck, we can dream, can't we?? <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
Hi Charlie. Are you still out there?? Just wanted to continue to encourage you to have fun and enjoy your dog.
I previously mentioned that our show line female Kimba just got her SchH1. Still photos are no replacement for live viewing, or video viewing. And even the stills can be picked apart - and I would like to thank the many at Leerburg who have taught me so much that I can even pick it apart!! As I said before, we are in this to have fun with SchH. Not to train police K-9's, or SAR dogs, or the many valuable "real" jobs that these wonderful dogs are capable of. But here goes - you too can learn a lot and have fun in the process!
I'm really looking forward to the next year (or 10), learning how to handle her myself (that's not me - that's her trainer/handler Cindy Petersen) and working for a SchH2, which we think she is perfectly capable of.
