Hi all, need a little info...my 14yr old husky mix has gradually eaten his treats/dogfood slower and slower ...he has been vet checked for mouth/teeth problems and checks OK..I have mixed his dry food w/ canned, but I was wondering if anyone knows of any softer type of biscuits/treats that are available? I don't want to give him the stuff from the pet stores (snausages, bacon, etc) due to high sodium, etc. contents...I also don't want to load him up with peanut butter or the likes...just need something to give him when I give the other two their Milkbones...
Any info is appreciated..
Bernie
Bernie, I don't know how much time you have, but I bet you could find different recipes on the internet on how to make your own dog treats--that are healthy and soft. Then once you get the hang of it, you could make your own version of a treat which would satisfy you and your dog.
I have two 17 year olds (small dogs) and I buy "lamb lung". It's at our local store. It sounds gross, but my dogs love it. Apparently, it's just dried lung. The old ones get that, as my young ones get milk bones.
I buy Natural Balance rolls, chop them up and store them in the freezer (will mold after several days at room temperature). It's a complete feed, so shouldn't have excess amounts of anything.
Another option is to buy hot dogs and cut them up. Even the cheap suspiciously red ones are much more nutritious than a milkbone.

Hi all,
Thanks for the ideas...only question I have is where do I find a "lung store"? LOL
Seriously though, anything will be better than watching him trying to eat biscuits...I think I will get some of those food rolls my friends are always using as training bait for their dogs...I appreciate all of the ideas put forth...will act on it ASAP..can't have my old boy sufferin'
