My buddy just got a KCS pup - 7 weeks. What age can you initiate formal training, he is already starting the NILIF at home with the family......Looking for a well behaved house dog, not interested in Pet Smart or any place like that, will probably go for OB and use a trainer.

I stroooooooongly advise getting a couple of videos right away and having the great advantage of no mistakes from Day One. <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
It's easier to evaluate and choose a trainer after getting the basics firmly in mind, if he wants to use a trainer, and the videos will also allow him to do the ob work all on his own (which is my own preference, along with lots of socializing).
This is just my own personal preference, but I'd get 8 Weeks to 8 Months and Basic Obedience.
