Hello, I am new to this forum. A friend told me about this site. I own 2 APBT. One is Mischief, 2 yr.old male and my other dog is his son, Atticus,7 months old. I am having some really bad dominant problems with my pup. He is always trying to challenge his father. I have had one really bad fight between them, where Atticus got the worst end of the stick, because Mischief is 3 times his size. I have talk to other pitbull owners on another forum and they tell me that I cannot ever put the two dogs back together again. They tell me to rotate them so they cannot see or be near each other, to do this every 30 minutes, one in- one out. I even been told that my pup has to much of a prey drive. I did not start having problems with Atticus till about a month ago. He started showing stong dominance. He has even resorted to twice cocking his leg up and urinating on me when we had strange company come over, then he would look at them and with hair raised as if he was challenging them. I do not allow this behavior. My oldest male Mischief is a very good dog. He is well mannered and trained and is not aggressive in anyway. Atticus is constantly pushing. I believe he thinks he is the "Alpha" over the whole family. I plan on buying some of the videos that are for sale. I am not use to dealing with a dog that is this dominant. Another problem with Atticus is that when people come over he is constantly trying to get in our laps, when we try getting him off he is constantly fighting to stay. I do not see why I should have to keep these dog's away from one another the eternity that I own them,, sound stupid. I do not want to get rid of either of them. Atticus with good training would be perfect for home protection, with the right training. Mischief is a great family pet and wonderful with me kids. What material and videos would benefit me the best?
I forgot to mention that both of my dogs are fixed. Mischief got fixed right after I found him hooked up with the neighbor's female pit(who by the way threw his female over my 6'wooded fence so she could hook up) Bad thing to do of course, but not everyone is a smart owner. I do not claim to be the smartest either, but I am willing to learn. Does anyone know a good trainer in the southeast who is pitbull friendly and willing to train one. I know pitbulls are not alot of people's first choice, but I love their loyalty, trainability, willingness to please, and how smart they are.
