My 2nd dog busted thru the Vari kennel (500) and damaged the door beyond repair. I even used bungee cords and they didn't work. I put him in the kennel aire crate and that is containing him. My 1st dog is now loose at night and while I'm at work. I put the Vari kennel upstairs so she can go in it if she likes, since she went into the kennel aire on her own.
Should I keep her out of the room the 2nd dog is in while I'm gone? While I'm at work the 1st dog was allowed my room and the hallway. Is it bad to cut her off like that? The 2nd kennel aire is in the mail and should arrive next week. I plan on putting that in the bedroom across the way and letting the 1st dog have her crate back. Is it a bad idea for them to be in the same room while one is crated while I'm not home? If so, why?
Not sure I understand the situation. Have the 2 dogs been crated in the same room before?
If not, why don't you just move the Kennel Aire crate to where the 2nd dog normally sleeps and continue to allow the 1st dog to have your room and the hallway? The Kennel Aire for my dog is portable, and though a pain in the neck, it can be folded and moved if it can't fit through a doorway.
I thought about that and wondered if would confuse the 1st dog more. The 1st dog is no longer crated while I am away, she has access to her crate if she wants it. I was wondering if it was ok that she is loose in the same area while 2nd dog is crated in or if I should keep them seperate altogether. He has growled at her twice when she came up to him when there was a bone with him. I told him NO and he quit. The 1st dog is showing her dominance every now and then and I tell her the same thing and she listens and stops.
I'm lazy and figured the 2nd crate was in the mail and I would have to move all that stuff back again. He is getting a bigger one since he is a bigger dog.
Lazy is as lazy does.. I'll move it b4 I leave for work.

I agree with keeping them seperate if the one dog is showing aggression to the other.
The dog in the crate will be very very stressed if the other dog is showing aggression to it while its in the crate and it has no where to go, it will feel trapped and may start to show its own aggression out of fear thus escalating the other dog to show more aggression etc etc.
Since you're not there, you don't know whats going on in the room. And although things may seem fine when you get home, they might not have been so great all day.
I wouldn't risk building animosity between them. And I think by leaving them in the same room together, in the manner described, that's exactly what would happen.
