I find it so hard to give the right answer here, the correct training will always depend on what you are doing with the dog. If the dog is intended for ppd, police\security or sport the training will be completely different from the in house pet. It is not as important for the in house pet to be built up in courage and to have their drives built up. The dog that bites you in the butt could just be stimulated in his prey drive, only you can decide if you want the prey drive to be built on or if you want to destroy, or lesson it. In a police dog you want to build the dog in prey, thus the run away, and the send out. If I had a house dog and I wanted it to be completely harmless I may choose the quick fix over the long hours spent to raise and train a sport dog. What do you want from the dog ? Then choose wisely the training method to build or destroy its drives and instincts. Good luck.
