CAN ANY BODY TELL ME IS ARTHRITIS THE SAME AS HIP DISPLASIA? I RECENTLY GOT MY DOG XRAYED AND WAS TOLD SHE HAD MILD DISPLASIA BECAUSE HE SEEN SOME ARTHRITIS ON ONE OF HER HIPS. I SEND A COPY OF THE XRAY'S TO THE BREEDER, AND SHE SAYS THE HIPS LOOK FINE. SHE WONT WARRANTY MY DOG UNTIL I SEND THEM TO OFA. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR ME?

Why don't you want to submit them to OFA? If that's the breeders requirement in order to honour the contract than that's what you have to do. Are these the x-rays done by Dr. White? If so, you need to tell him what is required in your contract, he should submit them for you.
What specifically is guaranteed by your contract with regards to hip dysplasia?
I'm sorry your dog might have mild HD in one hip, but remember there is a lot you can do to keep her healthy and remember, mild HD is NOT a death sentence. Most dogs can live happy active lives with this diagnosis.
WELL I WENT TO DR. WHITE WITH MY OWN XRAYS AND HE SAYS I DONT NEED MORE XRAYS HE SAYS HIP LOOK OKAY EXCEPT FOR SOME ARTHRITIS WHICH IS MILD DISPLASIA. I WILL SEND FRESH XRAYS TO OFA. I JUST WAS SURPRISE THE BREEDER WOULD KIND OF MAKE IT HARD FOR ME LIKE IF I WANTED TO THROW AWAY 2 YEARS OF HARD WORK TIME AND MONEY. I GOT HER FOR BREEDING PURPOSES SO THIS REALY PUTS THINGS DIFFICULT.

Yes it sure does put the kibosh on breeding. I completely understand your frustration and disappointment. It's a sad fact that the best guarantee in the world does not preclude our dogs from HD, but it does speak to the sincerity of the breeder, which is really important. No one is 100% sure how HD is transmitted or even how much of it is inherited. It is also really important to look at the environmental issues from the time the dog was a pup. Everything from the food, vitamins, amount & type of excercize, weight, (and more) plays a large part in the development of HD. Finally, you mentioned your dog is 30months old. With future pups, you may want to get preliminary xrays done before a year, and then again at 2 for OFA, rather than at an older age.
WELL I AM STILL OPTIMISTIC, I WAS DOING SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND YOU SHOULDN'T XRAY YOUR FEMALE 30 DAYS BEFORE OR AFTER A HEAT CYCLE AND SHE STARTED TODAY SO SHE JUST MIGHT HAVE ONE MORE SHOT. THANK GOD I'LL TAKE IT.
