Hi Everyone, I am in the process of gathering information on this. I have a 2 year old GSD that had x-rays about a year ago and he found that he has HD. One hip was effected, the other looked like it could be, he also had pano at the same time. I did take x-rays for a second opinion. One vet said plenty of rest, other said let him run. I did the running thing, and found it was just to much for my boy. Now we are a year later and he is having alot more troubles. So as it stands right now we are scheduled for x-rays on Monday, to see where we are at. I am concidering doing gold bead implants instead of an FHO. Has anyone done this? Rudy (my GSD) is a very large dog, not over weight, but stand 32 inches at the withers. His weight is about 100lbs, again not over weight. I am concidering the gold beads because it is non evasive, and from what I have read very effective. It also does not rule out having the FHO done later if need be. I would love to hear from other that may have gone through this. Thank you.

Some people say GB implants really work. One of our vets is certified in acupuncture and has started learning about this treatment. According to her it works well in certain cases of HD, particularly if a dog has previously undergone acupuncture therapy and has had positive results from that. She has not done it yet and I don't know of anyone who has had it done to their dog.
It is certainly less traumatic than surgery but it is, however, invasive and anesthesia is recommended and commonly used since you have to implant the bead on a specific point...hard to do if the dog won't lie still.
