i have a female gsd/collie mix since i was 13 years old. JENNY is 12.5years old now and had her shots until 5 years old. do you think i should take her to the vet so she can have her shots again? inspite of her age she is in good health apart from some lumps on her breasts. your opinion will be appreciated
There's articles on this here and old threads. I've learned that you can wait every three years for this. Getting all these shots causes severe allergies.
I've followed both methods. When first coming here I thought my dog was on his last leg, since the advice he's back to normal.
I would not do the dist/parvo. Might do the rabies though, depending on the dog. Around here if your dog has a run in with animal control and no rabies shot you could be in big trouble.
If you're not kenneling or training in a group club, then IMHO avoid the vacinations. If you need a certificate for kenneling, then ask your vet to do a Titer test, to show if enough antibodies exist from previous vacs. Also, get the lumps checked out!
I would be concerned about the lumps on her mammary glands first. As far as the shots are concerned. That is a personal choice, for you to make. I take my dogs a lot of places, and like the other post says, most all clubs do require shots and boosters every year.
Best to you and your K9 companion. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I wouldn't do any more vaccines especially if your dog has some lumps. Even my 'traditional' vet refuses to do vaccines on dogs after the age of 8. Says there is no need!
Lumps on the mammary glands may be a problem. However, dogs are like people , often they are nothing to worry about. If they are cancer it may also be contained in the lumps. If there are quite a few at your dogs age, you would need to think about what you would want to do anyway. However, giving your vaccine at this point, could be the factor that sends your dog into crisis.
