Real quick ill try to keep this short and summed, Im 25yo, I used to live in Manheim Germany working for eurocopter, Everyday on my 2 mile walk home I would pass this really big and nice schutzhund club, I did not know what the sport was, all I knew was these people had some super dark Bad A** dogs, and they were good at what they did, I watched everyday. One day I was invited in, but not knowing the language I politely motioned no, and went about my evenings like this, just watching from the fence. well I transfered to Austin 2yr ago. Not knowing about pedigree or such, I got a 1yr old rescue, I went to local Schutzhund club which I will not mention but is largest in texas and TC is initials, and the people there invited me to trial membership...I paid my dues, but quickly found out that if you didnt know everything in the world about what you was doing, then you were not gonna be offered any help. They wouldnt even talk to us hardly, and when it came out my dog was a rescue (oh my god) basicly I was told he had great ball drive, but he would only be a good obiedience dog and nothing more. well he was a great friend so I wasnt gonna give him away. So being the great club they were they quickly directed me towards a nice breeder in dallas, I went to dallas and purchased a 8wk old, who was fathered by the dog that later that year placed in top 5 at nationals 1996(I wont mention which dog or handler). and mother was schutzhund 3 blah blah. well I get the puppy, I have no idea how to raise a working puppy. so we got what little info we could from the club(when they would associate us because our dog was a puppy and the other dog had no fight or prey drive) Anyways, if the puppy would ark at someone they would tell us to praise and tell him what a good boy he is. Well they told us not to bring puppy back because there was really no need to till he was atleast 6 mths. so I got books and taught him to sit and what I could manage. when we brought him back they wanted me to bring him up to the fence while the older dogs were working to see how he reacted, well 20 yards from everyone and his hair on his back stood up, and what do you know, now that dog is to nervy, they were all like put him to sleep, I was so mad, I just paid 3000.00 for a pup that they told me to buy that had absolutely no drive, not ball, not prey, not fight. all this dog wants to do is lay on the tile and sleep and eat, he doesnt care for toys and i mean any toy, hes not aggressive, he totally doesnt want to do anything, hes like an old man. and then one day I was working my golden in the pond getting ducks we pretended to shoot, when all of a sudden my GSD started crouching lack a black panther and taking off after him as he retreved and would jump on him and grab his neck with mouth. not attacking but enough to chap my Golden where he stopped and put the GSD in his place. Now thats my question, I know its sounds dumb, but is he in prey drive, or is this aggression? he will be 3 this november, and other than not letting anyone near him (which is my fought for encouraging him to keep people at bay when he was a pup like our great schutzhund club told us.) this is his only fought. he minds, he comes when called, he doesnt ever growl mouth or act aggressive towards my wife or baby. he never picks fights with the golden, he seems to understand the pack order, and hes last. I dont know what to think. id never put an animal to sleep if it wasnt medical so he will be a part of our family till his last days, so should I be worried about him going after my Golden like a lion on a gaziele? thanks guys for your help, Im in Iraq at the moment working for blackwater, but Id like to know what to tell my wife, cause shes worried. thanks for your response, sorry if so long or wrong place.

Blackwater huh, I hope they take care of you guys..
Anyways, the thing about the pack order is that challenges can come up at any time and it does not matter that your gsd has never gone after your golden prior, it will come a time that he will challenge that. Now your post was so long I don't recall ,2 males right?
Sometimes you'll see your dogs act like good pals and never a growl etc.. and then one thing will trigger the other to go after "his pal" it all depends. How old are both dogs?
You not being there too can trigger thing, your GSD might want to take on your rank ect...A lot of things to consider.
As far as a club telling you that your dog is not worthy, i guess they have never taking on a challenge or really have a one track mind.A lot of clubs are like that.We , in our club like projects and would never refuse someone just because.. it is sad that you did not have the right club to direct you onto the right path. You can do a lot with a dog especially a young dog. I can't understand the break between the time you were coming out and coming back after the pup was 6 months, gee what about tracking the pup? exposure to all the dogs and sounds etc..
Keep your GSD , you might want to write a Little about one topic that concerns you and see if we can answer them better..Good luck in Iraq!

Its a good job, I just fix the helicopters, I dont pull any diplomatic securitys. The Golden is almost 3 the GSD is 2 1/2 He started doing it a while back. However I dont think hes challenging because my Golden makes quick work of him. Hes a big Baby, we have a yorkie also whos the top dog(we engineered our pack that way because hes so small) hes 3 1/2 and he never chases him or anything. I may just be missing the signs, But I do remember when he was young we'd go to the lake and he wouldnt go in deep enough to swim, he would just bark non stop at the dogs in the water and pounce them as they would try to get out. Sorry first post was so long. thanks for your comments, I purchased him and would never get rid of a dog because he wasnt good at something. I blame all his problems on my in-experience and lack of guidence. thanks

no this is not prey drive....dog aggression maybe. Your breeder should have exchanged the dog, how ever sounds like the club did you no favors.... We start our dogs as soon as 10 weeks, teaching them prey, grip, carry, etc. all as a game. You can not raise a sport or ppd the same as a house dog, we do not put two dogs together. the older dog tries to dominate the younger one and will instill dog agression, you were miss led by this club and should seek out more friendly and well trained people. I am sorry these people treated you in such a way. If a club is not interested in the dog and helping you be a better handler I would quickly get out of there and find a better place. Good luck Lance

Such extremely nice people have responded, We were limited to our club selection, we drove 89 miles one way after working all day to got to this one. we wouldnt get home till 11-12 at night. Were back in georgia now, however I think im just gonna work on obiedience now, and have backyard championships between my dogs. When one regretfully passes on I'll get a new pup, and be a little older so maybe people will take me and my wife more seriously, theres also more clubs in this area. hopefully by then there will be even more. who knows? maybe the nationals will be on ESPN by then. thanks for your kind remarks. james
