I've seen quite a few dogs who are linebred to Otis, and I'm looking at a litter right now that's linebred on him. Has anyone had any experience with dogs like these? What's the lowdown on them? How do they compare to other Mink linebred dogs coming down from other sons? Thanks.
I own a Leerburg female that is linebred 2-2 on Otis. She has VERY outgoing temperment, high prey drive, her food drive is VERY high, and she is EXTREMELY clear headed.
My last litter was linebred 3-3,3 on Otis. The pups are now 14 weeks old. Michele McAtee (a forum member) has a male from this litter. You can read what she has said about him HERE . James Larkey (another forum member) has a female from this litter so you may want to ask him about his puppy.
Cato, my pup with the Otis in the lines, is a great pup, quick study, solid nerves...focused.
Early on in my research of this litter, I was told that 3-3, 3 involving the Otis dog was too much, and this was from someone whom I highly respect and whom has bred over 350 litters of GSD's, some of which involved Otis. However, I opted for the risk, as I trusted Jason the breeder, and Will as well.
Angelique C. off this board, IMO has some excellent thoughts about Mink dogs.
Just so we are clear here. When asked if I would recommend Otis in a 3-3 breeding my asnswer is no. I only speak from experience - since he was my dog and no one has the experience with his breeding like I do. I tried close line breedings and in the end felt that keepining Otis one time in the pedigree was a better idea.|
These dogs may have more value as breeding dogs than sport dogs. You need to be a little careful here
