Hi. I have female GSD that I am trying to breed but getting her over to the place where the stud is, is starting to look like it might be a problem. The owners are giving me the run around, at first thay wanted one of the pups and I was ok with that but now they want cash up front and my dog is allready 3 or 4 days into her heat and I'm concerned that her heat will pass before we get ample opportunities to breed them. He wants too much for a stud fee, or at least for the quality of dog he does. He has a very nice dog that is AKC and hip certified however he isn't a proven sire. But all of them have to start somewhere, right. What is an average stud fee for an unproven sire. Also I only noticed her bleeding on mothers day, but I was checking every morning too, but she was probablly keeping herself clean. When is the ideal time to breed them? I have heard different things, and just wanted to know what you do.
I'm not experienced with breeding but can say that I wouldn't do anything without a written contract. They sound like the kind of people who give you their "word", then change their minds (we want a pup, no we want money). There are plenty of other stud dogs out there, research more and wait until your female's next heat. They're giving you too hard a time with an unproven stud, IMO.
Personally I would not breed to this dog - he is not proven breedworthy therefore why would you? A dog does not prove himself breedworthy by siring a litter (any dog can do that!) - he is proven by working (titles).
Also, if you do not know that answer to your question regarding when is the best time to breed - should you really be breeding??
