No. Actually I prefer mine smoked and BBQ'd with either hickory or a nice fruitwood. Some home made BBQ sauce, side of slaw, some baked beans and potatoes any which way. Thorw in a nice imported beer (or a Molson Canadian of course!) and you've got yourself some fine eatin'!
My dog prefers sirloin.....rare, loaded baked sweet potatoe, broccoli. He does enjoy a good bean dish though and likes coleslaw (not creamy cole slaw). He prefers imported beer and likes to eat off of hand thrown pottery or really nice everyday table wear. No paper plates!
Rock, Have you looked at the price? That is the biggest reason my dogs don't get ribs. So far as turkey legs go, it is a weight bearing bone and not ideal in the RMB. You can feed them, but need to add calcium as well to balance things out.
I am still new to all this too, so don't take what I say to be the gospel.
My wife picks up stew bones and what ever is on sale, turkey necks, beef knuckles, etc.. This type of scrap meet is cheaper than buying pig ears and other rawhide type chews at Petco. I would watch out for the knuckles though. We have been getting these bandsaw cut chunks of knuckles from the grocery store. This morning I found that my dog coughed up some chunks of bone at some point during the night. The cutting up of the knuckles creates small chuncks of bone buried in the meat. No harm done to the dog, but my first thought was "are there any chunks still stuck in system?"
