Ok, I'll try to be discreet here...My 2 year old GSD has been fed a raw diet since she was welped and has recently started walking while she's pooping, like it's difficult to get it out. I switched from Fargo food (too much grain and sugar) to making my own almost a year ago and have almost gotten it down to a science. I feed the Missing Link for the alfalfa, molasses and kelp mostly as well as the glucosamine and have heard that others have had problems with constipation with this stuff, so I stopped feeding it to her, and have substituted pure forms of these supplements, but she's still got this squeezing problem.
Basically she gets cattle heart, kidneys, ground beef and I mix in an egg, vinegar, safflower oil, Hokamix (for vitamins), kelp, alfalfa, vitamin C, carrots, green beans and a glucosamine tab with Vitamin E. She gets a RMB on her fast day once a week.
Anyone have any suggestions here? There's so much research to be done it's exhausting sometimes!!
I would try giving her some dark green leafys and/or apples instead of the carrots and green beans for a while. Maybe increase the amount a little, too. See if that helps loosen things up a bit. The poops of raw fed dogs are supposed to be firmer, helping the anal glands to express themselves. But, if she's struggling and seems uncomfortable, you might just make some adjustments in ingredients/amounts.
My mixed breed never poops in one pile. She'll squat down, one comes out, then she repositions herself, out comes another, etc. Is this what you're talking about?
