This morning I went out to clean up yesterday's poo, and I uncovered a maggot metropolis! What caused this? I am feeding the dog Purina Puppy Large Dog formula, for those who care to know. I have recently discovered the raw diet, and I will start her on that when I can find a good supply of cheap raw food. Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

Maggots are there because a fly was there laying eggs.

Make friends with your butcher - you can get a lot of stuff for free.
Until then Walmart sells chicken leg quarters at
$0.35 - $0.50 per pound. For my dogs, this is cheaper than kibble. I get variety bits from the butcher for free and organ meat at WalMart when it goes on sale for about $.50 per pound.
Para*Clear (sold on the Leerburg site) can fix that fly/maggot problem too.

Thanks!
Will the raw diet stop the maggots from infesting the poo, or is this just something that happens sometimes? I don't think I remember this happening up to this point.

Actually, it might help a little, only because it dries up and "goes away" faster.
But really, it's strictly a function of time and the presence of flies.
If you can pick it up right away, flies won't have time to lay eggs.
