Training the Disaster Search Dog, by: Shirley Hammond.
This is one of the titles offered by Leerburg, so I assume it is a worthwhile read. Has anyone read it or applied the training principals contained therein, or know anyone who has?
I would consider this to be a worthwhile read. I do disagree with some of her methods for training specific exercises (such as the directional exercise), but she achieves success with her results and that can't be argued.
This book is certainly a good place to start. I would also suggest that you review the revised FEMA standards for certification (DSCREP) located on the http://www.disasterdog.org website. They recently revised the standards and it may differ from what is in the above-mentioned book.
