My 14 month male GSD is obsessed with his toys. At first we thought it was cute but now it's to the point where he ignores us in favor of his toys. He won't even come when called when there is a toy in the vicinity, unless we are holding a more desireable toy. He is not aggressive if we take the toy away. Should we take all his toys away? What are your thoughts on this matter? Thanks.
Toy obession is an awesome training tool. To learn how to develop it, buy Leerburg's "Building Drive and Focus" DVD. You will not regret it!
Take up all the toys. They are YOUR toys. Toys are only used in interacting with (training) your dog. The dog must play your game or the toy goes away.

You probably need to start with the game, "if you come when I call, you can play with my toy." Play with your dog on a long line and the toy needs a leash or rope on it too.
The Orbee ball sold by Leerburg is the BEST ball on a rope ever! (JMHO ) The ball is soft, but very sturdy. It holds up to my multiple pit bull family. The rope is easy on the hands, even when it's wet. Plus - it's minty scented! I like to throw it in the washing machine to keep it clean. I can't say enough about it.
