Yeah but aren't some predators attracted to that smell - Like coyotes? I'm just guessing - I've had a similar experience where I took my goofball Lilly out to fly the hawk with me and noticed her rolling around in several spots and looking extremely happy. I didn't realize until we were in the car (for a ten mile gagging drive home) what it was she was rolling in.
And they just look so DELIGHTED when they are doing it! Like cats on catnip except - much grosser.. . . .
Let us know how the baking soda works out -
"Properly trained, a man can be dog's best friend." ~Corey Ford
I know...I don't get the rolling thing, either. I'm sure it's to disguise their scent, but I see your point, Kelly, about other predators being attracted to carrion smell and it being counter-productive in some ways.
And they DO look blissed-out when they do it. Ah the joys of living with a dog.
Operation baking soda is a go. So far so good, but he's sleeping in the kennel tonight while the flakes fall.
Baking soda worked! It turned a funky color and made him look punk-rock for awhile, but after a rinse and a dry in the sun, he smells like a normal dog again.
*For anyone using this treatment in the future: The Corgi has a thick undercoat and a resistant top coat. I had to apply the baking soda paste backwards into the fur, using my fingertips. Otherwise it just sat on his top coat.*
Once again, good advice was given and taken. Thanks all. Yee-ha!
