Hello all, I would first like to thank Ed and all the many contributors here that have really pointed me in the right direction to get my puppies like off to a great start. I am a first time dog trainer and think I may have made an interesting choice for my first pup. She is an American Bulldog, and I really love her. She is very confident and can be a little stubborn at times, but has taking to training really well.
Thank God for Ed’s videos podcasts and articles, I have Ed’s 8 week puppy video, Basic dog obedience and Dealing with Dominant dogs (not sure she is dominant but had my questions) she gets a little crazy sometimes and can become hard to control, but I think its just her being a puppy but sometimes its hard to tell if she just wants to play or trying to flex some muscle over me or my wife, though at 13 weeks im guessing its more play than aggression so I try not to stress about it
Anyway, my pup is at 13 weeks, and she has sit, down, and come pretty down pat though we still work on them everyday. What new things would be good to add, I think according to the DVDs she is still too young for a stay, I like to work with her, but don’t want to put to much pressure on her at this point.
I work on go crate whenever I put her in her crate, (just pretty much say go crate while dropping treats in there) I was thinking the go to place command, but are there any other things I should start working on her at her age?
One last thing I would like to know, I have not really given a real leash correction maybe a pop to get her walking or a pop to get her not to eat a rock, but what age is appropriate to start giving her real leash corrections? I’m not talking about the correction phase of training, more pack discipline type corrections.
She is really good, and the method Ed shows in the puppy portion of dealing with dominant dogs works well, but I was just wondering at what age is it appropriate.
