My friends dog has been diagnosed with Lupoid Onychodystrophy. It's a rare autoimmune disease that dogs get and is not breed specific. (What happens, is that the dogs toe nails fall out.) The vet is unsure if the nails will grow back or not and if they do, they might not be 'normal'and he might continue to loose them. They placed him on antibiotics for the infection and omega-3's and of course pain pills. Has any one had any experience with this disease? If you have, can you tell me what treatment helped your dog.
I've never had a dog with this disease but if I ever did and I was using an allopathic vet, I'd get a 2nd opinion from a holistic vet. At the very least you'd be given additional treatment options.
This is also called pemphigus. It's not that rare and it's treatable. Here's a link for you. Scroll down all the way on the left hand side and click on "toe nails falling off".
