I was hoping someone could help me out with this question I just started collage and I really have no interest in anything they are teaching but I have heard about a degree in Animal Behaviorism. This degree is the closest thing I can see to actually having anything to do with training a dog. I was hoping someone else could let me know if there are any other degrees that have to do with training a dog or in that area of expertise?
Most colleges and universities have guidance counselors that you can call upon.
I don't know if you are going to a US college. However, in the US, you usually have a faculty advisor from your declared major review your course selections.
More generally, you usually don't get into the real specifics of your major until the third year or so. Much of the first few years is spent doing the basic courses in math, chemistry, literature, and writing. From what I've seen, college is best approached with a specific goal in place. I've seen a lot of people blow a pretty good wad of cash, "Finding out what I want to do." College is generally a really easy place to get sidetracked. ; D
Sorry let me explain, i am in the US army currently deployed to Kosovo, i don't live here, i am just here for the next 10 months or so. I am going to collage for promotion points and it deffently seems like a good idea to get a degree. So what do you all think is a good degree that has something to do with training or behaviorism. I am not looking for any certifications (well not till i get back to the states)
Mike,
Have you considered a degree in Criminal Justice?
Five to ten years of street duty with some PD after getting that degree would go a long way to establishing your expertise and credentials down the line as a K9/dog trainer.
Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss this path, for a MWD handler, it's a shoo-in.
