I ran into a little snag with my dog and air scenting. I've been training him to find shed antlers. I know that he knows the scent of the antlers because he has found them in the woods where I haven't touched them. The problem is that I was playing out in the yard with him and I picked up a small twig and broke off a small piece and threw it in the yard amongst other small twigs. He brought it back. I did it a few more times paying careful attention to where I threw it and he continued to bring back the same twig.
If you were planting articles for your dog to find, how long would you leave them in the weather to eliminate your scent from them? Or is there a way to wash stuff without the risk of leaving an even easier to find soapy smell?
Or am I being stupid and completely overthinking this?

You can use the food service gloves. The kind you get at Sams or Costco. Those are what I use to package the scent articles of the people I am trailing.
I do not use latex (emergency type) gloves except for when packaging my HRD material.
