I wondered if anyone could tell me anything about the all-natural diet this company, The Honest Kitchen, prepares and sells. I am looking for a simple way to switch my dogs to an all-natural diet and this food is very tempting. It is a dehyderated mix of veggies, fruits, grains, vitamins and minerals that they claim is a balanced staple of a dog's diet -- just add a variety of raw meat and bone for the complete diet.
Could some of you who are more knowledgable and experienced with a raw diet take a look at their website and let me know what you think?
They list a nutritional breakdown for the 2 types of diets they make on their "products" page. One contains beef, assorted fruits and veggies, potatoes, assorted rolled grains, and no dairy. The other contains chicken, assorted fruits and veggies, yogurt, and no grains.
This seems like a reputable company with an innovative product to offer. They process the food in an FDA approved facility and gaurantee the product is made with all human-grade ingredients.
Any opinions/thoughts on this product and company are much appreciated!
I only feed 2 dogs right now so I am not quite so concerned about cost, although, it's true I can't feed an arm and a leg. LOL I am really interested in this food because feeding would be so SIMPLE. I am a big fan of simplicity!
Do you (or anyone else) think that this is a good, balanced diet, though? I am not experienced enough yet to know if this contains the correct balance of nutrients for my dogs.
Also, what is the truth about grains? Is some grains ok to feed if your dog tolerates them well (and both of mine seem to)? Or should no grains ever be fed to dogs?
Thanks again for any info!

You are welcome, Kali.
The food seems pretty good to me, if your dog doesn't have sensitivities to any of the ingredients. As for grains, dogs don't need them and they can aggravate skin and joint problems. Grains have lots of sugars in them which feed yeast and also cancer cells (if they are present). Some dogs do fine with them but I figure, if they don't need them----why feed them?
Feeding time at my house is similar to the zoo......I have big tubs and buckets of chicken parts and beef innards and I toss chunks to everyone in their crates!! I am sure a lot of people would be horrified if they were looking in the window at dog dinner time!
What I would like to do with this diet is feed this plus raw chicken, and/or beef, and bone. Based on what you've said and according to their website and nutrition list, I am assuming this would be a correct, complete, and balanced diet and I would NOT need to worry about any additional supplements. Is this right to assume?
Please forgive me for sounding like I am asking the same question over and over. I have never fed a raw diet and, since I adore my dogs, I want to be sure that their diet would be a good one and that I would not be harming them by feeding this diet in this manner.
Thanks again for all your help!
