Hi All,
My question is: is it still possible that my female GSD is pregnant after my male GSD and her tied after 18th day that the book said is the window for breeding. I counted from the first time I saw her bleeding until the day I saw them tied up and this equals 25 days. According to the GSD book the female will accept the male only from the 12th to the 18th day. Please verify. Thanks.
My understanding of it (I've just gone through a breeding with my dog for the first time) is that the LH peak can ocure anywhere within days of starting to show up to 20+ days after showing. This is an individual thing and can not be determined by breed. I went through daily progesterone testing to time my dog and turned out to be well worth the investment. There is absolutely no guessing as to when your bitch is ready and when you should be getting the stud together with her. When the LH level peaks she is going to ovulate within a couple days, after she ovulates then she should be bred days 3,5,7 after ovulation. I had a surgical AI done and we performed the procedure on day 5 and ended up with 13 of 14 puppies. (we lost one) Good Luck on the breeding. For information purposes it costs me $325 to time my bitch doing progesterone testing every day for 13 days. Every other day they froze and you don't pay for that unless they have to go back and test that sample. I use the best veterinarian in the state of MA for anything to do with animal breeding and the cost is probably much cheaper in different parts of the country.
