I have a 4Runner, and I have one of those pet barriers in the back. When I'm not going far, I just open the back door and my dog jumps in. It's really convenient. If I travel farther, I fold down the rear seats and tether her closer to the front seats. Plus, I think the car Steve recommends might be a bit tough to find!

Good MPG, and it's very flexible for many uses. Great head room too. I drove many SUVs in that class and it drove the best. There is a bit of wind noise however but they all had that. Good luck.
