.... the fact that they went into much further depth to discuss police k9 bites, leads me to believe this news agency and reporter could have possibly been just a bit biased.

I agree that there was bias in the report (hard to find unbiased reporting anymore), especially when the news anchor asked "and this dog is still in service?". The type of question that comes from total disregard for cops, IMO. I want our cops to have as many weapons at their disposal as possible, including K9s.

They may only pay half due to litigation involving bites on criminals...(ie: do they pay *any* hospital bills then?)
It seems criminals get everything paid for by the city (us the taxpayers) and on top of that never have to compensate monetarily for anything they steal, etc. Kind of makes one sick.
I will jump in with sort of off topic (but not really, because his thoughts would be great here) but Where is Howard Knauf? Anyone know??? Been wondering for about a week now.
I think Chris makes an excellent post. This forum is all about being responsible handlers and this handler dropped the ball on this one. I agree with Chris, if he wanted to get his dog out the car for a min, take it to a place with less risks. I mean, these dogs are highly trained to bite, granted it's directed towards who and where, but they know how to bite. WE know that, but not everyone else does and it's not their fault they don't know.
As far as the bias, my opinion is I don't think there was necessarily a bias from the agency or reporter. They are just being "the media".
What amazes me about such stories is the blindingly stupid reaction by authorities. They had an opportunity to make lemonade out of lemons and decided to smash the pitcher
This is what I'm curious about Mr. A. They could have bought me off with handshake and a sorry bout that. But instead they beg for a law suit and get media attention on this officer that he didnt need. So how would any of the officers on this board feel about being,in my opinion, thrown under the bus like this?
Steve, I went to high school with the dog trainer they interviewed on video clip. I'm going to email him today and ask him if he knows anything more about the story, i.e. updates or small details, etc. I'll PM you if I get an answer in a reasonable time period.
I also agree she should be reimbursed the entire medical costs of treatment as courtesy, the woman was over-confident she had the right of way. This is good example anyone unannounced, not walk within touch of a police dog? A BH does not prevent an incident, dogs do not speak as humans and sometimes there is no body language as cue. Ed's - of this site/forum, retail employees worked with me to design our Service Dog Vest which contrasts with my dog's Black Sable Coat, people disregard stating they will pet my dog regardless wanting to be bitten & make money from me - I work a GSD.
