Can anyone explain what kind of protection competition NAPD is? I watch a club practice every so often. They call themselves a Schutzhund club, but say they are really doing NAPD. They do mostly protection work; very little of anything else that I can tell. I've never seen the dogs run blinds. They do sleeve work, but also teach the dogs to bite the legs. What are the differences in this kind of competition and Schutzhund? Is it a type of ring sport? Just curious.
Sharon,
Check out http://www.NAPDweb.org. I've not been to an NAPD trial but it looks like they can get pretty creative <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> in setting up scenarios. Again, I'm not experienced other than reading what they send out, but it seems that the difference between NAPD and the sports is that in NAPD there is no pre set pattern for the dog to memorize.
