Coffee indeed! I'm usually on my second pot by 6 am.
OK, I understand and agree about the leash and lead inside and outside. And I think the lack of one-on-one time with me and the rescue has definitely had a negative effect on this. By the time we get home from work, the original dog is pooped, so a walk with just me and the rescue would be really beneficial.
He is also going to start learning a good "come" tonight.
I don't think the rescue org offers an obedience class but there are plenty of others locally that I can utilize.
I have read some of Ed's articles but need to keep re-reading to keep the messages sinking in. I am planning on buying the basic obedience DVD - which others do you think would help my situation? I'm also going to get a long line.
Thank you Mike, so much. I think ewe ken spehll feyen.
I think the basic obedience tape is a great start and maybe more. I'd utilize it, and have - there are lots of things to learn from it. It is really that good.
Initially there is the urge to get all the stuff in the whole world to read and absorb. Better you use the stuff on the tape, and I believe you will be strides ahead of most dog owners, and you will have a great dog.
Get most of the basics out of the way and believe me you will have much to proud of. Did I mention there is a lot to the basics?
And look for some inexpensive little dog training class. Within the first twenty minutes decide if the trainer is a person you can respect. If so, stay. If not, leave. Some times it is helpful to get pointers from some one who has a bit of experience and the know how to deliver it usefully. And shared experiences can be informative. In the eye of the beholder, I guess. I'm not fond of harsh methods types.
My bet: your rescue will respond to normal training given time with you.
