Hi, I just have a couple of questions. First it seems my puppy gets blood shot eyes. Is this due to stress? Tiredness? ?? She is approaching 10 weeks old now. We went to the lake today (her first visit to the water) She couldnt wait to get back to the truck. She does not like being in the truck.. I do not have a crate that i can fit in there, so i hold her on my lap and my husband drives.. She hates it. I know, I just watched the Leeburg "puppy at 8 weeks" dvd and he says to crate the pup. I want her to get use to the truck, but cant afford another crate.
Any ideas. Your advise is appreciated.

Is there any inflammation (redness) around the edges of the eyes? Is this both eyes? Does she paw at her eyes? Is there any gunk collecting in the corners?
Did you know that there are often dog crates for sale on eBay and at yard sales?

No inflamation around the eyes, no pawing the eyes. There is redness in both but its not constantly there.. it comes and goes. No gunk either.
sbs
Does it come at certain times of the day? (Some hayfever-type allergies pop up at sunrise and sunset or when there is a breeze.) You don't let the dog ride in the truck with her head out the window, right?
If this was one eye, and constant, or if there was discharge, I'd call the vet right away, because of the possibility of a foreign object, an injury, etc.
Also, if it was constant in both eyes (and an adult dog), I would call the vet to rule out high blood pressure and glaucoma.
And if the dog rubbed her face along the carpet or pawed at her eyes or otherwise exhibited discomfort, I'd also call the vet right away.
But as you describe it, I would keep a little log of the times of day and the weather when you see the bloodshot eyes, and then I would just give the vet a call with the information, or take it along with me to her next checkup.
I'm not a health professional, so this is just what I would do in the situation. :> And I wouldn't let her ride in the truck with her head out.
And I betcha puppy folks will see this and have suggestions, too.
