I was told by someone that during detox a dogs coat will become coarse. After a couple of weeks, that coat will fall out and be replaced by the better looking coat that everyone talks about. I was told that they look horrible during this process. I am curious to hear if anyone else has had that happen to them, because I couldn't find anything about that in that books that I have.
If you are talking about detox due to BARF, I did have a Springer who developed great oozing sores on her body....now before that her coat was dull and fine (tangly fine - not right) and after wards the hair grew in very nice and the plaque came off her teeth.
Other than gradual change, I did not really notice anything on my GSD other than blowing his coat -- but that could have been normal seasonal blowing. The new coats are much nicer and dont smell like the old ones.
HEY FRANK, I NEVER HEARD OF THE DOG COMPLETELY LOSING IT'S COAT DUE TO DETOX (BARF). WITH MY EXPERIENCE (BARF SINCE FEB 03, GSD X2) I NOTICED A CHANGE IN ODER IMMEDIATELY, OR LACK THERE OF, AND GRADUALLY THE COATS GOT THICKER, SOFTER, HEALTHIER, BUT NOTHING DRASTIC OR OVER NIGHT. IN FACT MY MALE DID NOT HAVE IMPROVEMENT WITH HIS COARSE COAT UNTIL AFTER STOPPING ALFAPHA. I AM STILL HAVING PROBS WITH ALERGIES, BUT NOT AS SEVERE. WHAT WAS YOUR SOURCE FOR THE HAIR FALLING OUT DUE TO DETOX?
The body renews itself approximately every 45 days, so it only comes to reason that seeing the first signs of change from a raw diet would also become readily apparent in that time frame. All the time our bodies are building up and breaking down structures, over and over again. The same is true for animals.
So, I really can't say that there is a true "detox" process going on, it is the same thing that has gone on all along, but now there are better components available for building so the differences can be remarkable.
