I started RJ heeling last night. I had previously taught him the eye contact game so I had no problem with his focus. I gave the Fuss command when he was looking at me and I marked him on my left foot as soon as I started walking. After that he picked it up pretty quick. While walking I gave another Fuss command and when he looked up I rewarded again. Shortly thereafter he kept looking up and I marked with a "Yes" then "Good Fuss". I was pretty proud of him. He's still a little A.D.D. though. He sits when we stop walking but its crooked, which I'll fix very shortly with a marker. Good stuff.

My dog was doing that too. How I corrected the problem was drag my left foot back, she'd follow it and once I put my foot back in straight her butt would be in perfect position.
Now that I'm doing the same exercises off leash it's less A.D.D but more Zombie tendencies especially if she sees a butterfly etc in the corner of her eye. She'll try to focus on the butterfly and try to heel at the same time but she is off course and then you have reaffirm the command to wake her up! A whole new set of training 'challenges' and I have to tell you you, are right it's "good stuff" and a heck of a lot of fun!

Are we training the same dog?!
I think one of the best looking commands is the fuss, as the dog just stares straight into your eyes and follows you perfectly! It just has always amazed me every time I see it, and when we started the marker training, I couldn't believe how quickly Bella picked up on it. I am sure I was smiling real big, too...
